I have found it very difficult to get a visa for Egypt. I was advised against waiting and getting it at the airport in Cairo so I attempted to contact the consulate in San Franciso. All calls and letters have remained unanswered. A friend told me that in order for her to get hers, she had to spend at least $100 and had to send her passport somewhere. I was told it would only be $15. Help!

We just applied for our visas through the consulate of Egypt, San Francisco and had no problems. I have spoken with them on the phone too. We got our visas posted back to us in about 5 days. Try their website - www.egy2000.com. It also has the costs, etc. listed depending on the type of visa that you need.
