Hi,
I am currently in the process of booking the "Yangtse and the Southwest" departing on the 23rd July. I have a few questions that I am hoping people will be kind enough to answer:
1/ I am thinking of spending an extra day in Hong Kong at the start of the tour - any suggestions on what I must see when I am there???
2/ How hot and hunid should I expect the weather to be???
3/ Shopping - as an avid shopper does anyone have any suggestions on what I should not miss out on???
Thanks!

Re: Yangtse and the Southwest
Hi Aussiechick,
Thanks for your questions.
1) You definitely need to go to the 'Peak' and my suggestion would be to walk it from near to the top of the central escalators rather than take the tram. As painful as the walk was, it was quite satisfying to reach the top! You can then take the tram or a taxi back down to Central from up there. The escalators are quite good fun too, though a little hard to locate at first. I would also recommend the light show at around 8 in the evening from the end of the Kowloon peninsula looking across the harbour. Personally I thought the light show was pretty impressive and quite a view.
2) You should expect the weather to be very hot and humid but lots of places, including the departure hotel and the subway (I think), have air-conditioning. Some shops also blast cool air onto the street, which is quote handy!
3) You can't go wrong in the downtown area around Central on the subway. There's a gi-normous shopping centre straight opposite either Central or the stop before it, which should keep an avid shopper amused for half a day. Likewise, there are a couple of good street markets in Kowloon which you can find out about in any good guidebook on Hong Kong.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Brendan
