Hi all,
I am about to book the Annapurna Santuary trek in October 07. Has anyone else who has been on this trip able to give me an insight of how physically tough it is. I am young, fit and healthy, just worried about the knees!
Also, what kind of clothes do you take? I am from Northern Australia and haven't ever bee to high altitudes or cool climates. Looking for jacket and pant info.
Any help appreciated!!!!
Isla

Re: Annapurna Oct 07

Hi Isla,

Thanks for your questions.

We rate the trekking on this tour as B - moderate.

By our own definition this means the following:

"A mixture of longer and shorter walks of 5 - 7 hours per day. You will need to be fit for these treks"

What we suggest is that you read through the trip dossier carefully and satisfy yourself that you can complete the itinerary without too much difficulty:

http://www.wanderwiki.com/index.php?title=HAST_-_Annapurna_Sanctuary_Trip_Dossier#The_Trekking

As long as you are happy with the itinerary we are happy for you to join!

If you are fit and lead an active lifestyle then you shouldn't have too many problems completing the trekking. If you have a history of knee problems then it's probably best to consult your doctor before you sign up.

As for clothing, lots of layers is normally the way to go when heading upwards in a warm climate; these are best for quickly stripping down when it's warm and for retaining heat when it gets a bit cooler. Something like a fleece is also ideal normally for the evening time when you are not moving around and are likely to feel the cold more.

There are a few required items on this tour and a few additional items that we strongly recommend. You can find the complete list in the trip dossier above but a few of them include walking boots, a down jacket, sunglasses, warm gloves, two pairs of trousers (one for the evening, one for the trekking), a wooly hat and one pair of thermals. Like I say, check the trip dossier for the comprehensive list.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Regards,
Brendan
