Can anyone who has recently been on any china trips with the Yangtse cruise let me know if there are likely to be problems in the near future. I have heard conflicting stories that work on the dam will mean the cruises will be stopping next year and want to know if this is true?

Re: China Yangtse cruise

Hi there,
We have no tours running in China from Nov 02 - March 03 (as it is the off season).

2003 sees the completion of the second stage of the building of the Three Gorges Dam and is the year that the waters of the Yangtse River will start to rise. From April to May 03 the authorities are closing off the section of the river around the Dam to traffic and all cruise boats will be required to stop slightly short of the dam and will be unable to cruise all the way to Yichang. Note though, that this does not affect the nature of the cruise as it only cuts a few kilometres from the journey.

Then, in the first two weeks of June no boats are allowed on the Three Gorges section of the Yangtse at all so we have cancelled trips in this period.

From mid June onwards the cruises will not be affected. I hope this helps clarify things.

Re: China Yangtse cruise

A friend and I are planning a trip to China between Nov and Jan and were considering your China Explored the week of Nov 4th. Would this trip still include the Yangtse Cruise on days 7,8 and 9?

Re: China Yangtse cruise

Hi,

I apologise for the misunderstanding, I was not very clear. We do have two Yangtse tours starting in November 02 and these will run as per the itinerary (ie they do include the Yangtse cruise). However from the end of November to the beginning of March next year we are not running any tours to China.

Sorry about the confusion - have a wonderful time in China. It really is a superb country and I am sure that you will love your tour.
