My husband and I are planning a two week+ trip to China this fall - and are considering the China Discovery tour. I was looking for feedback on the Yangzi river cruise - given that it takes up three days I wanted to make sure that it is worth the time. Friends of mine went last year and said that it was just okay. Also, given that the water levels are continually rising I am not sure if the scenery would have been impacted. Thanks!

The Yangtse cruise is a remarkable journey simply because the waters are rising and the region is undergoing immense dramatic changes. Life along the river is also fascinating and you will make scheduled stops en-route to visit certain sites and perhaps get the chance to see how they are pulling the old towns and villages down brick-by-brick.
However if you don't fancy 3 nights of karaoke I was lucky enough to do the Sichuan Explorer tour which is 3 weeks in total but absolutely fantastic!
This trip takes in all the main highlights of China so you don't miss the south, Xian and Beijing but gives you the opportunity to see the pandas in Chengdu and get out into fairly remote areas of western China. This region was absolutley spectacular and a mix of Tibetan and Muslim culture. It enabled our group to experience Tibetan culture without going to Tibet as the region is still home to over 1 million Tibetans who still lead a nomadic lifestyle. I could go on for hours about this trip. I would highly reccommend it if you are having doubts about the Yangtse.
