Hi

Im going on the Buddha to bollywood tour and was just wondering if anyone can advise me on the best currency. I've had many input from others but not sure what to do.
My plan was to take USD $200 for Local Payment then $30 for visa then withdraw Nepalese rupees from cash machine.

Also is there any border taxes to pay and if so how much? and what currency is best to pay it in?? I cant seem to find that information on the Dossiers.

Thanks in advanced.

Nepalese Currency

Hello Raks

Thanks so much for getting in touch. We appreciate your patience while we varified this information.

Unfortunately, Nepalese currency CANNOT be used anywhere outside of Nepal. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however you should find that if you carry around just enough to make you final purchases in Kathmandu (and there is always plenty to buy!) you should get by fine.

Buddha to Bollywood currency

Hello Rak

Thanks for your post! What a great tour - I am very jealous.

It sounds like you won't have any other cash on you aside from the local payment and visa, which is not ideal. ATMs overseas are improving all the time however if you find one won't work, or your bank is suspicious about you accessing it abroad and stops your account then you could struggle a bit.

I would recommend taking some back-up cash with you in case of any problems. On a tour I was recently on there was a girl who had informed her bank she was going abroad and where, and she still couldn't get the ATMs to work. This poor girl had to borrow money from pretty much everyone in the group (who luckily were in a position to lend it), but it could have been worse.

Normally what I do is have the cash for the essentials as you describe (local payment and visa), plus I would have more US dollars or Sterling to change in case of needing it. Personally I normally take at least £200 worth, but this is just me and I am sure others have their own habits. I would then draw out money and keep the other money as a back-up in case of any problems getting money out later on.

Don't worry about border taxes as there are none on this tour. It is in the trip dossier but is very easy to miss - it is after "Visas" and before "Special Luggage Requirements".

I hope this helps and that you have a great time.

Best Wishes,

Kelly
