Hey everyone,

I haven't really seen too many posts about the Japan tour that IT has. Has anyone been on the tour that could give a few words of advice?

I would love to climb Mt. Fuji but know that July and August are very hot in Japan. Would also love to see the cherry blossoms in April/May. Any recommendations? [Smile]

Thanks!

Re: Empire of the Sun?

I was on this tour last year in June. We really enjoyed it. It was a great way to see Japan in a short time. Heads up, though - Japan is EXPENSIVE! Make sure you have some money to spend in addition to just the tour cost since not many meals are included and eating out is half the fun. The tour stays a lot in traditional Ryokans, which are beautiful and we wouldn't have missed. Most of them have shared bathrooms, though, so make sure you are OKAY with that as well. It's just the way the Japanese travel.
All in all we loved the tour and would recommend it to anyone.

Let me know if you have more specific questions and I'd be happy to answer them.

Re: Empire of the Sun?

Jessvivian,

Thanks for the reply! I've heard Japan was expensive so I'm trying to plan ahead and start saving now!

When you went in June, how was the weather? Bearable? (I guess that all depends on where in the US you're from. We're from NY so our summers aren't too bad most of the time.)

I'm glad you mentioned you stayed in Ryokans. In the dossier is just says 'basic hotel' and I was dissapointed we weren't staying in a more 'traditional' hotel.

We were also thinking of staying a day or two extra at the end of the trip. Any suggestions as to what you didnt do on the tour that you would have enjoyed doing after?

Thanks again for your reply!

The weather wasn't bad at all. We had thought it might be rainy season but except for a few days we were really lucky. It definitely wasn't hot.

Some extra time in Tokyo would probably be good. The tour also doesn't go much to northern Japan, if you wanted to add on there. The express trains get you anywhere fast We actually pretty much flew right back so can't give too much advice.
