I'm serioulsy considering Everest Base camp this Oct. or Nov. Now I'm reading 'Into Thin Air'. Is there any more information I can read upon in advance? A book, a trip report etc. Can anyone please share the experience? Especially what to watch out for?
Also, can anyone comment on the royal family massacre?

The shooting of members of the Nepalese Royal Family was of course a tragic occurence, which happened to one of the better loved Monarchies in the world. It was expected that the normal 30 days of mourning would pass without trouble. However, there have been public demonstrations some of which were tinged by violence. A curfew was introduced which as far as we are aware was lifted today (Tues 05/06). We do have tour groups in Nepal at the moment but the worst they have suffered is the inconvenience of delayed flights.
The implications for future groups are still unclear. We hope that the furore will dissipate over the next few days and life will continue as normal. Needless to say we are monitoring the situation closely and will keep everyone informed.
