Re: Females Alone in Nepal
Hi,
I will be arriving in Nepal on the 23 OCT (after a tour) and have booked a few extra nights in Kathmandu. I leave again on the 26th so I probably won't have much time for rafting but if you were going at that time and were interested in doing some sightseeing in Kathandu then I would be interested. I'm also female (26) and I will also be alone in Nepal (unless other people on my tour have also booked extra nights)

Re: Females Alone in Nepal
Hi,
I've been looking into rafting in Nepal for quite some time now. Myself (27 from UK) and a friend have booked up a 11 day rafting trip (Karnali) from 28th October using Ultimate Descents. From what I have read they are a very reputable company. The other company I enquired about are Equator. Both these companies do several trips from 2-12 days. I have been dealing with Ultimate Descents by email and they are very helpful for booking hotels, airport transfers etc.
Some things I learnt in my search:
1) Book direct with a company in Nepal - loads cheaper and easy to do via email. For example are trip is costing about
Re: Females Alone in Nepal
Don't know if you've left already but here goes...
My top tip for single women is cover your shoulders and don't wear anything above the knee - even in the tourist areas of Kathmandu and Pokhara. You'll see plenty of women walking around in sleeveless T-shirts and shorts but you will notice a real difference in the locals' attitude if you dress 'properly'. I had a sleeveless dress (shocking!) and but with a shawl over my shoulders I was definitely stared at less and generally felt more comfortable. After that I always made an effort and it definitely helps. Young blokes will be keen to chat (!) so be firm but fair if you're not interested but otherwise there are no men hassles (you will get much less chance to meet Nepali women) Don't worry about being on your own - the people are lovely and will go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. You'll have a fab time - I was only meant to pass through on my way to India and ended up staying 5 months!!
