Has anyone taken the Ganges & Nepal tour (it's a combo of North Indian Highlights and a week in Nepal)?

If so, can you tell me if it's a strenuous tour? I understand that there is hiking, river rafting & camping involved.

What's the weather like in late-September through October?

Your comments about the accommodations provided?

Thanks for you help!

Dear Roni,

In October 2000 I went on the Imag Traveller tour that I think was called Delhi to Kathmandu which essentially was the North Indian Highlights tour but ended in Kathmandu rather than back in Delhi. You are going to have a fantastic time. The accommodation is great and a little different. It definitely was one of the highlights of the trip for me. The 2 nights we spent in the Shekhavati area we stayed in 2 different places. The first night we spent in Mandawa in an Old Fort that they have restored. You have dinner out in the Courtyard and are entertained by local musicians. Make sure that you watch the sun set from one of the turrets. It was a great place to relax with a cold beer watching the sun set with the sounds of the Indian day drawing to a close. The second night we spent out in the desert in mud huts. They were awesome and there was a terrific swimming pool so make sure you pack your swimmers. In Ranthambore we stayed in a grand old Hunting Lodge. We went to the local theatre in Karauli that was an experience and obviously not something done often by tourist particularly female ones. We were quite an attraction and I think the locals spent more time watching us. Unfortunately we didn

Tammy-- thanks a million for your post! I was a little concerned about the accommodations, but those fears have been put to rest after reading your note.

I've got one more question for you-- can you tell me what kind of attire is suitable for female tourists? I know India will be somewhat hot and I as thinking about shorts. But I read somewhere that locals think shorts are childish. Also, is it true that one shouldn't wear leather sandals/shoes? I want to be comfortable, but I don't want to offend either.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated!

Dear Roni,
I am glad that I could help. You really have nothing to worry about with the accommodation. All the hotels used are great. Some of the ones used in places like Agra and Varanasi lacked character compared to some of the others but there was nothing wrong with them.

As for wearing shorts I didn

Hi,

I have just realised that I shall be doing the same tour as you, after posting my message. Thanks to the questions you have asked and had answered, I am looking forward to starting the holiday in just under 3 weeks time.

Hi Sandra-- we're looking forward to our trip too, and meeting you and the rest of our group!

Are you continuing through Nepal, or will you be doing just the North Indian Highlights portion?

Roni,

I shall be going through to Nepal as well, it seems to be a good contrast to the India part of the trip.

Re: Ganges & Nepal Tour Experiences?

Hi Sandra-- we booked our own flight to Delhi-- we'll be arriving a few days earlier so that we have a little more time to explore the area as well as acclimate to the weather and time change.
