i will be in china this fall (for business) and was thinking of doing the "gateway to the southwest". i am interested in comments from previous clients. i prefer reasonably active vacations, which seem to be difficult to find in china. don't know why. imagtrav attracted me because they hike and bike in a scenic part of the country. mostly, i want to be sure that i will not be herded around in tour buses.

Re: gateway to southwest
Hi,
Sorry it has taken me some time to reply but I have been on the road in Pakistan for a few weeks. I have worked out in China for several seasons and the GSW is without doubt my favourite tour. The main reason is that it allows you to get to some of the really scenic areas of China and explore them on foot or by bike - so sounds perfect for you if you are looking for an active trip. There is definitely NO being herded around in a tour bus - fortunately the tour buses can't make it along the high road in the Tiger Leaping Gorge or along the beautiful small cycling tracks around Yangshuo ! It really is a fantastic trip and I'm not just saying that.
Hope to see you in China soon
