I've been on this trip in june 1999, and although it is some time ago, I can give you some input on this trip. This one was amazing and culturwise the best trips I've ever had!
The culture experience you will get is just great. You will visit all the major sights in China, numerous temples, and also the nature in the Guilin-Yangshuo area is stunning. Basically just highlights all the way! And if you like Chinese rock-gardens, this is just the trip for you.
The hotels we used were very good (definitely worth the money), and food is excellent. Transportation was fine, soft sleeper trains are good transportation.
So if you want to get to know and fully experience China in relative comfort, this is a great trip to do. I'm not sure what to tell you more about this trip than just go ahead and do it, but if you have any specific questions, just e-mail me directly.
