Hi There,
I have a few extra days in Beijing before my tour starts and would like to check out other sections of the Great Wall. Would it be possible to know which section is the one included in my Journey Across China tour, so I can organise myself to see different ones in my own time?
I have found a really cool website detailing different sections and transport info so want to see as much as possible!
Thanks

Re: Great Wall - specifics
Hello.
Update.
It's the Jin Shang Ling section of the wall.
Have a great trip.
Re: Great Wall - specifics
It's more commonly known as Simatai section. Jing shan ling is the starting point though (it's a A to B hike)

Re: Great Wall - specifics
I enjoyed the China Discovery trip back in June/July.
For your information, the closest section is Badaling and I'm told it is heavily touristed.
The Simatai section was partly renovated and partly eroded and rundown. A fantastic walk, fantastic scenary and rarely saw anyone else other than our group and the touts who stuck to us like glue. You can't shake them, so you might as well talk to them. You will easily be able to get photos without people in them. Ensure you have good shoes and plenty of water (altho the touts will be able to sell you more water along the way, they set up small shops inside the forts).
Be warned, it is a 3 hour bus ride there, and a 3 hour bus ride back. Small bus. not much leg room.
If you have time before the trip, make sure you see the Summer Palace, it isn't on the itinary. The Temple of Heaven and Earth gardens are also worth a visit.
