This is kind of a follow on to my other post which is probably too lengthy for people to bother with now, but we are going on a China trip over 1st October, which is the Party's National Day. In my experience things kinda stop workin on that day, and we have to ear Moon cakes filled with earwax. Has anyone done an Imtrav tour over 1st October, do they do anything special?

Re: National Day in China
Hi Chris
The Moon festival is on 21st september this year, 1st october was last year (according to lonely planet pg126), so you'll catch it but I won't. If I'd realised this a week ago I might have tried for an extra day off work. Never been anywhere when the festival has been on, but I had sticky rice cakes last year in vietnam, and they taste kind of like sticky rice cakes really. Not bad if you get decent ones, but not something I would eat a lot of.
Happy munching

Well thanks for the moon festival date, if i'd realised there was a risk of eating them cakes again I would have gone after the 21st! There is little good I can say about these cakes, I was offered one in Malaysia last year but there was no way, not if they were remotely like the Chinese ones.
Still no response on what we will do on National Day?? When I was there last time we had time off work which was good but I can't remember how much things closed down??
