Hi,
I'm off to India next week - can't wait.
Just a few trivial questions regarding packing. Will all the hotels I'll be staying in provide towels, or should I bring my own? Also, given that it will be Monsoon season, do I need to bring an umbrella or some other sort of raingear>
Thanks in advance.

Hi Christina
Thank you for your message and I am glad you are really looking forward to your trip.
The hotels will provide towels but I would recommend that you bring an umbrella and rain jacket in case you are caught in a downpour.

Thanks for the prompt response.
I can't remember if there is anything about this in the country dossier, but do you advise travellers to take any particular medicines with them to India? If so, which ones?

Hello Christina,
Thanks for the email.
When travelling to foreign countries it

I wouldn't travel in India without a large amount of Immodium as heath + local food is often not a good mix....
Re: Packing for "Indian Images"
Here in Canada we were given Dukarol, I think I have the spelling right, by or G.P. It is a little drink that you take twice before going.
It was the best thing since sliced bread. Of our group of 16 my husband and I were the only ones to breeze through our holiday with no upsets whatsoever. We travelled india and the middle East for 10 weeks eating whatever we fancied.
Check it out it can give you an event free holiday.
Re: Packing for "Indian Images"
Thanks for the tip Ballylawn, I will have to check that out. And whilst some travellers do experience 'tummy troubles' whilst travelling as long as you are strict with your hygiene and cleanliness there's no reason why anybody should fall ill whilst travelling. It's the simple things like washing/sterilising your hands before every meal and after handling money, not touching food washed in local water and choosing your eateries a little more carefully that can make a big difference.

Brendan

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to give advice. Will certainly check out that "wonder-drug" - if it's unavailable then maybe Immodium will have to do! I've heard Indian chemists are generally well stocked and prices are extremely reasonable, but I suppose it's always best to go prepared.
Re: Packing for "Indian Images"
Just a quick last minute question: is it easy to find English language books in India? Do hotels often have bookshops where you can buy books - not just guidebooks? Thanks for any replies.
Re: Packing for "Indian Images"
Hi Christina,
Thanks for your question.
You shouldn't have any trouble picking up English language books in India.
Have a nice trip

Brendan
Re: Packing for "Indian Images"
There are some excellent bookstores in delhi. I bought up at one at the Khan markets. Indian bookstores do not have massive stocks of this weeks top 10, but small numbers of a vast range of books on subjects that would only be available in specialist western bookstores.
Re: Packing for "Indian Images"
Some of the bookshops in larger cities (eg Delhi) will ship your purchases home. I found it took a little while for the parcel to arrive but it did and in A1 condition.
Enjoy your trip!
