Hello,
we`ve booked the following trip to Sri-Lanka: Sri-Lanka Discovery. We leave in 2 weeks. We were wondering what kind of luggage would be best. Should we take hard-case style luggage or sports-bag style?
We would also like to know how much cash money we should take (dollars) and if travellers checks are advisable. Can we use mastercard/visa in Sri-Lanka?
thanks,
Tom

Re: Sri-Lanka Discovery
PS. Is anyone else doing the same trip? It starts july 6.
Re: Sri-Lanka Discovery
Hi Tom,
You are in for a great trip, I done it last July and it proved to be one of the most memorable holidays ever, a few tips :-
Take plenty of film ( I used over 20 rolls )
Travellers cheques are best
(banks - your guide will stop when needed)
In any currency ( on my trip there was Australian,New Zealand,UK,Japan currency getting changed - never had a problem.)
Mosquito repellent - high in deet.
All the hotels we stopped at were excellent most had mosquito nets and coils to burn at night.
Hope you have an excellent trip - If you see Rex - Say Hi to him for me.
Robert
Re: Sri-Lanka Discovery
Sorry! oops
Forgot to answer your question about type of luggage?
We had rucksacks - but it was not needed to carry them as you travel by mini bus or small coach and porters at most places the easiest form of luggage people had was the sports type holdall which you can get in all sizes and some even with wheels and handle to save the lugging it around on your shoulder - That is what I am using this year for Egypt as I find it better to live out of, as you are on the move quite a lot.
Cheers
Robert
Re: Sri-Lanka Discovery
Thanks for the info.
How`s about the weather? I believe it`s the end of the rain season. Can we still expect showers?
Re: Sri-Lanka Discovery
Hi Tom,
It was very hot for most of the time we where there, got a bit cooler in the Highlands but that was very welcome and not so you would need a jacket, still T.shirt weather, the only time you may want or will need something more is the morning you go to worlds end as it is early and when we done it very misty and cool until about 1100hrs, then brilliant sunshine, did have the odd shower of rain but nothing to worry about in fact it is very welcome to cool things down a bit, the worlds end trek is well worth doing if you are up to it.
You also asked about using Visa, this is accepted at all the places you would want too pay by this method.
We found Sri Lanka very cheap for eating out even in the Hotels we stayed in, just watch the adding up on the bill? they make some big mistakes! always in their favour, so need checking, laundry service in the hotels was good as well, when you have time.
I wish I was going again it was such a good trip, hope you have a good time.
Cheers
Robert
