I will soon be doing the 'North India Highlights' trip. Can you tell me if it is usual to tip the person who will be meeting me at the airport and if so can you give a little guidance as to what level. Also for the tipping kitty, is this paid to the tour leader in rupees or dollars?
Thanks

Re: Tips

Thanks very much for the advice - exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait - only just over two weeks to go. Hope we miss the start of the monsoon season..........

Re: Tips

As Kate correctly pointed out, tipping is entirely at your discretion but I think you need to be careful not to make the easy tourist error of thinking about tips in the foreign currency rather than the local. I suspect this is why you asked the question in the first place.

"A few dollars", ie $3 = approx. 135 rupees. That is a lot of money for a local and you would never tip that much to a driver (a regular non air-conditioned taxi) unless you'd hired him for a day/half-day trip. We have used the ImTrav pickup service a few times now and from recollection I think we tipped around 50 rupees. I know that seems very miserly when you convert it back to $ or

Re: Tips

Hello Grasshopper

Thanks for your enquiry.

You can find information about tipping in our dossier pages, just visit www.imtravdossiers.com

If you wish to tip the transfer driver at the airport then it is up to your own descretion and you probably only need give a few dollers.

All the best

Kate
