My wife and i are planning 10-15 days around Bejing. We're getting mixed advice on the wisdom of bringing a 7 (girl) and 9(boy) year old on the trip.
Jet lag
Food
Enjoyment / activities...

Any thoughts?

You pose an interesting question.

Will you be joining a tour or travelling on your own in China? Do you speak a little Mandarin? Are your children fairly independent for their ages?

Beijing is a great place to visit. Some of the highlights are: the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Old Summer Palace is interesting,
Beijing Zoo (to see the Pandas), Tianamen Square, Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Wanfujian street for shopping.

Joining a tour is convenient, as your hotels, food, and transportation to/from sights are taken care of. The only drawback is that you're always on the "go" (up early and out late) which may be harder on kids.

If you decide to visit on your own, it would be very helpful to have some knowledge of the language to help you get around.

I believe it is doable with children who have a great sense of curiosity. Chinese people adore children.

I hope this helps you.
