We will be doing the Inca Explorer tour including the 1 day hike to Macchu Picchu. How far do we hike and what is an average hiking time?
Do we need to take anything other than a daypack and change of clothes? Can you give me an idea of temperatures we can expect.

Inca Explorer 30 August 2009 - Inca Trail (one day)

Hello Anne,

Thank you very much for booking with Imaginative Traveller on our Inca Explorer.

The one day hike on the Inca Trail takes approx 6 hours so it is a moderate trek and you will need to be fairly fit and be used to regular exercise to enjoy this.

Altitude ranges from approx 2,100m, up to approx 2,700m, and down again to approx 2,400m.

We include a full packing list in our trip dossier, and your tour leader will also reitarate what exactly to take on the hike once you are on tour.

You will need all the same things as on our list for the 4 day Inca Trail. For example, you will still need to take your camera, sunscreen, water, hat, waterproof etc as listed in the trip dossier.

The average annual minimum temperature on the Inca Trail ranges between 5°C and 11°. In the months of June, July and August the temperature can drop below zero at higher altitudes overnight. The annual maximum temperature generally ranges between 20°C to 26°.

I hope this helps!

Many thanks again,

Kelly

Thankyou fo your reply.
We checked the list of what to take, but confused with the things like sleeping bags etc.As it's only a day hike we expected the day pack is all that's required.

Would you please clarify what we will need for the 1 day hike.
You replied that it is the same as the 4 day, but that includes sleeping bags! Just need to know what to bring before we leave Aus.

Hi annemc,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay getting back to you.

You do need the same as for the 4 day hike, however you don't need a sleeping bag.

You still need your overnight change of clothes/toiletries etc as your main luggage stays in Cuzco and you have the day pack as your overnight bag at Aguas Calientes.

I hope this helps,

Best Regards
Kelly

Thanks for the reply.
I know we will need a day pack and clothes for the overnight stay.
I was a bit concerned as the requirements for the full hike are quite extensive.
What sort of day pack will we need.
Don't want to try and find one in Peru if we can prepare here before we go.

Day Pack

Hi Anne

All you will need is a small back pack which you will be comfortable carrying on the trek and will hold all the items you will need for the overnight stay & trek.

I hope this helps

You can buy everything in Cusco

Hi Ann, I recently came back from Peru having done the 4 day Inca Trail trek - I was worried about making sure I got everything before I went, but in fact there are loads of shops in Cusco which sell absolutely everything you could possibly need, so you can get a day pack or anything else when you get there if you want - which also saves you carrying it before. I bought a 30 litre day pack in the UK which I then used as my hand luggage on the plane, and this was plenty big enough for all the occasions I needed a bag for - in fact often it was a bit too big. I'd say a 20-25 litre bag would be fine.

Have fun - Peru was a fantastic country - I had the trip of a lifetime (Hola Peru incl Inca trail).
