I am planning in being in Vietnam from May 30 until whenever I decide to leave in June. Since I will be travelling alone, I would like to do some organized travel. I am also a very active person so I am a little concerned about some of the tours, they seem very sedentary. Can anyone suggest some active tours that may be going on at this time. Can you also give me and idea of the average age of the travellers in these groups. Thanks, Holly

Hi Holly,

We certainly have some very active trips in Vietnam. My main recommendation would probably be the Vietnam Explorer - this has three days of trekking in the mountains of North Vietnam, as well as the chance to go sea kayaking in Halong Bay (a truly WONDERFUL experience - I did this myself recently, and it really was fabulous). You then have a few days doing 'cultural Vietnam' like Hanoi, Hue and Hoi An (though there is always the opportunity to hire a bike and go off exploring with others in the group).

Then there are a few days on the beach where you can be as active or laid back as you like - there are wonderful opportunities for snorkelling, walking and swimming.

And lastly, my favourite of all Vietnam - the Mekong Delta. This is lovely - very beautiful and you get to stay with people in their home. You can go off exploring and walking around the village.

The other trip that I would recommend would be the Highlands and Islands, which is similar to the Vietnam Explorer but is 'travller' category. This basically means that it uses a higher standard of hotel and there are more things included on the tour.

Regarding ages, it really is impossible to say - most groups have a variety of age groups ranging from 18 to 65. I am afraid that it really isn't possible to be more specific than that as it does vary so much from one group to the next.

However, one thing that I can say - in four years on the road as a tour leader, leading a huge variety of groups, I never once had a group that didn't get on. So the age range shouldn't be a problem !
