Hello
I am going on this trip on 13th March - anyone else? I am going with a friend from Uni..we are both 22.
Has anyone else been on this trip? If so, what was the accomodation like - do we have private facilities? What was the overnight train like?! Is it quite a flexible trip in letting you do more or less what you want to in the daytime? Would like to hear from you if you have any tips!
Happy travelling!

Re: Bangkok - Singapore Q's
Hi, my boyfriend and I did this trip last summer. The accommodation is very basic (but clean) and you will have to share toilet and bathroom facilities in some places but its not as bad as you would imagine. We found it no problem at all. The overnight train was great, it was very clean and no one found it difficult to go to sleep, its quite an experience! You'll have an amazing trip, everything is really cheap and there is loads to do and see. You'll make some really good friends along the way too.
Have a great trip
Lisa
P.S. always carry lots of tissues and wet-wipes with you, the public toilets in Thailand and Malaysia are not the best!!

Re: Bangkok - Singapore Q's
Hiya, i was only 19 when i did this trip, and found it to be the most amazing experience of my young life thus far. the thai people were really welcoming, as long as you follow their customs and respect their laws etc. I shared accomodation with a friend, and there were a couple of places where we had to share a double bed, but they were so huge, it was like three singles anyway! Make the most of your time and see as much as you can, you basically are given time to go explore yourselves, and its amazing!
The overnight train was one of the best experiences ever! you have a little bunkbed with sheets and a curtain and the train rocks u to sleep! we talked to the guard for some of the night, and he was really nice and welcoming. there are toilets onboard and sinks. and they serve hot food which you order when you get on, and they bring to you at a set time! the chicken nugget thingys were yummy! and the pad thai! also, theres a guy who comes round selling drinks fairly frequently! i didnt even wake up when we stopped at stations to pick up new travellers it was that comfy!! hee hee! try out the top bunk, cos its just funny!! i got stuck getting down on the morning and the guy who changes the beds into seats had to help me!! very amusing!!
theres a starbucks in Penang if u need to go!! and theres a mcdonalds pretty much everywhere! just in case! but the Thai/Malay food is simply delish and u shud try it all! jungle curry is really hot, and green/red thai curry is really coconutty! i dont like coconut, and didnt no wot it was wen i ordered! so theres your warning!!
go to the grand palace in bangkok, and the wat, the wall paintings are simply amazing! eat on the streets as well, cos its just as nice (once you work out what it is!) and cheaper than restaurants!! try a bug!!! theyre gross, but an experience!
most of all, have fun!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Bangkok - Singapore Q's
Thanks to those who have replied to my message! It sounds like its a fun trip! I was just wondering about Krabi...those of you that have been on the tour.. what was Krabi like? I have read mixed reports about it especially the accomodation...was it ok? Also, did any of you take mosquito nets? I usually get bitten loads and was thinking about buying one!
Did any of you go to the Singapore Zoo - I've heard it's good..
Thanks for the tips!
Sarah
Re: Bangkok - Singapore Q's
Singapore Zoo is great during the day, but even better at night! they run a night safari and its quite an experience. Don't know about Krabi cos I went to Koh pha ngan, but if that anything to go by, the Krabi should be beautiful. Mozzi's tend to leave me alone but my boyfriend got bitten to death. if your one of these people who tends to get bitten, then take a net. Earplugs are a must take too!
hope this helps have fun

Was in Krabi in DEC
Yes opinoins are mixed. It really depends on what you expect/like
For me. . . it was too touristy. More caucasian than Thais, & expensive, for Thailand
It did not help that the hotel IMTRAV had booked was rather yucky (beware of the YA YA Bungalows).
Most seemed happy. I expected something other than what we had. Up til then everything was not touristy so I was surprised we would end the trip ( I did wilderness adventure) in such a location.
However had a much needed and wonderful "spa" day at a "fancy" hotel, some friends kayaked but were not pleased, unfortunately the weather was not coducive to diving or snorkeling (choppy seas).
Personally I prefer the "off the beaten path" and did not care for Krabi (well
Ao nang) except for an awesome Italian rest (La Luna)
Any specfic questions? Happy to answer if I can!
