anyone been to borneo and done this???? i know brochure says mod. to strenuous. i have done inca trail (v. tough) and Tiger leaping gorge Not so tough). what sort of level of difficulty is the volcano compared to these? (if its tougher than inca then i'm screwed). am going in jan so weather conditions may make it difficult???? (heat and humidity?) i climbed moon mountain in yangshuo china and the humidity nearly killed me - i got heatstroke at the top and it was only a few hours climb not a few days.

Re: climbing kinabalu
Hi, I have climbed Mt Kinabalu four times this year, and am not the most fit of people. I was out in Borneo with Raleigh International and we got some pretty unfit venturers up and down in one piece, so with your experience it shouldn't be too tough, and technically it's not difficult.
It does get cold at the top though, so warm gloves, hat, fleece etc are essential, as is a good head torch as you need to scramble up in the dark in places. You will absolutely love it, so don't worry, just enjoy!
Re: climbing kinabalu
I meant to add that in Jan Borneo is still a bit wet, so watch out for slippery bits of the trail, but you'll not have a problem with humidity as it's so high, it's not hot. You do the walk over two days but it's only really a 4 hour walk to Laban Rata, the overnight guest house (depending on the route you take, I'm describing the typical one), then another 3 hours or so in the morning to get to the top. The walk down is quite quick, but tough on the knees. Did you know that there are guys who run up and down the thing in under 2.5 hours!
