I'd love to hear some feedback from anyone who has done the Kota Kinabalu ascent in Borneo, especially from the perspective of a 50+ year old. Was it worth it? How demanding was it, although that would depend upon the shape one is in?

Climbing Mt Kinabalu in Borneo
Hello gbbcanada
Thank you for posting on the forums!
While I haven't climbed Mt Kinabalu myself, our Australian Sales Manager Becky has, and I asked her about it on your behalf.
Becky has confirmed that, even with preparation, it is a very tough climb, the walk down afterwards is hard too, and it can be a bit daunting in the dark and if it is raining. At some points on her climb, the weather was so bad when they did it they could see nothing and were the only people who climbed it that day.
But, if the weather is good then the views would be spectacular. Even with bad weather, Becky still thought it was worth it and loved every minute of it, despite it being hard work.
I'd recommend you do some physical preparation to get into as good a shape as possible, in order to get the maximum enjoyment from it.
Best Wishes,
Kelly
Mt Kinabalu climb
Hi Just to say I did this aged over 50 years - and well worth the effort. I am reasonably fit & if you arent would suggest some prior fitness programme. It wasnt overly hard though, apart from the final 10 mins of the ascent. There are guides you can pay to assist you - worth every cent. The view of the sunrise was amazing. Dont have breakfast before you leave if you are planning on staying the night part way up the mountain. The descent is quite tough so recommend very good shoes - good grip as was slippery. Dont forget to cut your toenails first! I say - go for it! Give it a go - you can always turn back it if gets too hard.
