Clothing in Vietnam

Myself and a friend are travelling to Vietnam later this year. As two females travelling can anyone tell me if vests and shorts are appropriate or should we cover our arms and legs more? Different guide books seem to have different views on what is acceptable and we are wondering what to pack.

Thanks for your post.

You'll find that Vietnam can be quite conservative away from tourist areas, and so you'll probably feel more comfortable if you take some long trousers as well as shorts.
