Hello
My name is Alison, and I am interested in going on the Hanoi to Bangkok trip leaving in Feb 2007. I was hoping to get some advice from people who have been on this trip before, and also hear from people going on the same trip.
The trek through Nothern Vietnam, I am wondering how physical this is. I have a good level of general fitness, however I don't live at the gym. I would hate to be the one at the end of the group 'huffing and puffing'. I also wonder about the shoes needed. I really don't want to be stuck with treking boots for the rest of the trip if I could have used trainers instead.
If you are going on this trip, please contact me, as it would be wonderful to hear from some people prior to going away. I am very excited about this trip, and I am sure will think of nothing but this for the next 7 months.

Re: Hanoi to Singapore
Hey Alison,
Thanks for your post.
Whilst the climate and environments through which our tours of South East Asia go through, they are easily managable for anyone with a decent level of fitness.
Regarding footwear, I personally would have a look at buying a pair of Merrells. I find these the best shoes for this type of activity as they are sturdy, comfortable and multi-purpose, fine for the day as well as the evening.
I hope this helps,
All the best,
Robert
Re: Hanoi to Singapore
I did this in the summer of '06. The trek is quite physical but they do go at your own pace. I would recommend being fairly fit and be prepared to carry alot of water - you're going to need it!
It's worth taking hiking boots for it though, you can always post them home after it or keep them for the other treks later in the tour.
