Weather sites say Hanoi has 20 days with rain in March. But is this continuous, hard rain or just half hour spritzes in the afternoon? Is Hanoi do-able in March?
How about the rest of Vietnam?

Thanks for your post.
Although it will rain for most days, you'll find that these do tend to be short bursts, rather than a continual downpour.
Further south, you should find that it will be mostly dry at this time.
