Re: SHOES!!
If you aren't planning to do serious hiking over rough terrain, my advice is just take comfortable sandals, and maybe a pair of trainers you don't mind throwing out. Hiking boots are overkill.
I've done two trips in Southeast Asia (3 months in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Phillipines in 1999, and 5 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia in 2005). Both times, I took trainers that I only wore once - on my last trip, that was one 12 km hike in Sapa, Vietnam.
I found it was way too hot for trainers most of the time. I wore Tevas (sturdy sports sandals) for easy hikes and longer walks - for example, on a 5 km hike which was partly along rice paddies, and for two full days touring Angkor Wat). I wore a $2 pair of flip flops (thongs) most everywhere else, including walks in the city.
I cursed having to lug the trainers around, on both trips - they were heavy, and took up precious space in my backpack. If they hadn't been relatively new and relatively expensive, I would have just left them behind.
Re: SHOES!!
I have been on this trip and there is no need for hiking boots! In fact you do not even need trainers. I just had flip flops (the more sturdy, walking kind).
There is no actual hiking included in the trip. There is a lot of walking involved round the cities though if you want to see as much as possible.
