Hello to all!!
I am organising a 4 month packpacking trip to South-East Asia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.....
Then moving on to India....
The question that i have is:
How much stuff should I pack in terms of cloaths?
Would I need trecking boots?
Are a mat and a sheet enough for sleeping or am I better off in bringing a sleeping bag?
Thank-you
Sasha

Re: South-East Asia backpacking.
Hello Sasha,
Thank you for your post - it sounds like you have a big adventure ahead of you!
Even though you are going on such a long trip, I would advise you to travel as light as possible. Taking plenty of lightweight clothes that can be layered and washed easily will be much easier than packing a huge amount, and will leave you plenty of space in your luggage for any souvenirs you might buy (and will make your pack easier to carry).
Regarding footwear, it depends where you are going to be walking and what the terrain is like, but it is a good idea to take some good trekking boots with ankle support if you are unsure. Any injuries while travelling can really disrupt your trip.
On such a long trip as yours, taking in such a large area, the weather will no doubt vary. In some places a sleeping sheet and mat will be sufficient, in others you may wish you had a sleeping bag. If you are in doubt it would be a good idea to take a compact sleeping bag that won't take up too much luggage space. A good source of weather information to help you plan is the link below:

Good luck with planning your trip, and have a great time!
Regards,
Kelly

As you are going to Cambodia, you might be interested in a day's symposium on Cambodia, being held on August 17th in Oxford. There will be a whole range of guest speakers to provide you with a wealth of information about travel in Cambodia.
