We are booked on the Fabulous Thailand trip going to Bangkok, Kanchanburi, Chiang Mai and Hua Hin in August. I have received conflicting advise ref. anti-malarials and though I appreciate that ImTrav cannot give any advice regarding this - I just wondered if any recent travellers could tell me their views. Several websites state that anti-malarials are only needed for travel near the Mynamar, Cambodian and Laos borders and Ko Chang - however they also state that anti-malarials are not needed in the main tourist areas eg. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Bridge over the River Kwai. The Kwai and Kanchanburi is near the Mynamar border. Providing we take precautions with repellant and bite avoidance I would have thought that we would be fine. I do not wish to take unnecessary risks as malaria is serious - but also I do not want to take medication that I do not need.
My GP after saying that we did need them has now (on the advice of the pharmacist) changed their mind. I am left uncertain and confused.
Any advice/input welcome.
