Anybody been there? What do you think about the place?

Re: Whale Island Resort, Vietnam
Hi Katrin I spent a couple of days on Whale Island in September '07 as part of Vietnam Highlights. The weather wasn't great so we didn't see it in the best light, but still it was a lovely place. Really beautiful & very chilled. The huts are great, with their own bathroom & mosquito nets provided. The food (which is all in as part of what you pay) was really fantastic - three 3-course meals a day. There's a beach-front bar with great cocktails. You can walk round the whole island fairly easily. There's not much to do apart from chill out, which suited me fine for a couple of days! You can go snorkelling or get a massage. The only drawback I can think of is that there isn't actually that much beach - just a small patch with some sun loungers, then the sea is right there. But it wasn't overcrowded when we were there so that was fine. I'd recommend it! Kate

I was on Whale Island for a couple of days in November 2007. The huts, food and bar are great.
The main beach is not that large but is very nice.
There is snorkelling and some boats that you can hire if the weather is OK.
All very chilled and the accommodation is limited so there are no crowds.
There is a walk around the Island, great views from the top. The other beaches on the Island were covered in rubbish carried in by the sea when I was there.
There is a pool/games room.
Take a look at is site below if you haven't already ....
In short a great place for a couple of nights, but that was enough for me !!!
Have a great time ......

Hello-
I did Vietnam Hilights in November 07 and we visited Whale Island just after the typhoon!! Whale Island is amazing and the French guys that run it are really nice. You can snorkel, sail, have a massage or just sunbathe. I would recommend climbing to the highest point on the Island which is a big rock the views are lovely and you van see the enormous sand dunes that you have to drive through on the main land. It was really nice to relax for a few days after the bustle of Hanoi, I liked that the beach was small- there really are not that many people there so you won't have to fight for a patch of beach. We played football with the locals and drank mojitos on the beachside bar.....can you tell I want to go back!!

Whale Island - It was heaven. I could easily have stayed there longer. It was just so nice to have the time to relax.
The other people have mentioned some of the many ways to spend your time. However for those with their certification (or who want to get it) there is a PADI scuba diving instructor on staff. One of the members of our group went on a beautiful night dive of the clear water.
I recommend picking up a few good novels before getting to the island, and just spending hours lying in the hammocks reading.

We just came back from Vietnam. We spend 2 days on the Whale Island. It was great.. except the weather! The huts are comfortable, food very good. 2 days is enough for a rest before further trip to the north.
