I would definately recommend taking some kind of anti-malaria tablets - its a really nasty illness that will put you out of action for several weeks/months.

Doxycycline (Doxy) is a relatively cheap anti-malaria tablet that costs around

I would also agree that you should take an anti-malarial of some sort. Last November I did a tour in Vietnam with Imtrav and I took doxycycline which was okay to take but it was a real pain as I had to remember to take it! and also at roughly the same time to ensure that the doseages were maintained. In Ireland the new anti-malarial that you only have to take weekly was not available at that stage although some of the others from the UK were using it and it did not have any of the side effects of larium - which I had tried unsuccessfully. I think it was called meflaquone it definitely started with m !!. I also didn't like the doxy as (previously mentioned) it increases your risk of sunburn - I got burned after swimming and that was with factor 60. I hope the above helps a bit in selecting the appropriate meds but of course do seek your GP's advice or a local travel clinic.
Enjoy your trip!

Hi,
I spend a lot of time in and around Thailand and have done the Wilderness Adventure. By all means grab your Dox but as Malaria isn't really a big problem anywhere in Thailand l don't see the reason to take it. In the eastern area of the north of Thailand there has been some outbreaks but more worrying is the presence of Dengue Fever in urban Bangkok. Really, all you need is a good personal insect repellent with lots of DEET (just keep it away from your RayBans Hee Hee)

Good luck, its the best trip in Thailand that l can see!
