Hi Everyone,

I am planning to go on this trip but wanted to get some feedback from past travellers. I would like to experience culture and relaxation - is this one suitable or is it too "rugged"? As well, is it better to have all activities set and paid for or better to have options when you get there?

Re: Wilderness Adventure -mid sept - opinions?

Hi Rebadiva,

I went on this trip last November and can promise you that if it is both Culture and Relaxation you seek, then you have chosen right!!

You really do get the sense that you are on an adventure regardless of the millions of tourists that have filed through thailand before you. If I remember, the tour is 15 days, and in that short time you can expect a real sensory overload and experience the great diversity of thailand from the north to the south!

There was more than enough 'free time' to wonder off by ourselves for exploring, shopping, more eating, and most importantly ... Traditional Thai Massage!! So thats your relaxation taken care of! Oh yes, must not forget the days on the beach!!)

It is not really a 'rugged' tour. After chiang Mai, you go for a few days treking/rafting and elephant riding through the Jungle, sleeping in the villages en route. This is as rough as it gets. And by 'rough' I mean absolutely stunning scenery, great hospitality, food and stories round the campfire in the villages and the possibility of getting a little bit wet on the raft. OK, I lied, you 'will' get wet on the bamboo raft but that only serves to clean the build up of mud on your boots prior to getting there.

...Definitely had to be the highlight of the trip!

Personally, I would rather pay for any optional excursions while I am there (apart from any that 'must' be paid/booked for in advance). That would give you more freedom as there are so many opportunities and great things to see.

I would certainly recommend the Wilderness Adventure and hope to be back in that part of the world again soon myself! Also 'Jess' the tour leader was great so hi to you if your reading and check your emails!

Cheers
Ru Lea
