Wilderness Adventure in Thailand

I've heard that thailand is best travelled between november and febuary.

Has anyone gone on the wilderness adventure in october? Does it rain a lot? and is there a good mix of activities (active and rest)? Also, did you find that too much time was spent travelling on overnight trains?

If you've gone on this trip, i'd love to hear any of your thoughts!
