I am joining the Desert Kingdoms tour on Saturday, starting in Damascus. I just picked up a few Euros to use during a long airport layover in Paris on my trip over, and the Change office commented that she had heard Syria was moving to the use of the Euro. Can you verify this (the Change office had no Syrian Pounds, so knowing I could pay for the taxi from the airport in Euros would remove any fear of the airport change office being closed when I arrive)?

Don't fret. There is an ATM in the customs call. There is also a change office at the airport at arrivals just by the exit from customs. I had 0 problems with money. All offical change outlets have the same rate.
I also caught my own taxi into town, and just be prepared for your taxi driver (go to the rank, don't get a taxi inside) to get out of the cab and ask another driver to read it for him - as not all drivers can read western script. My driver was lovely, even though he spoke 0 English.
You will LOVE Syria!!!! I am so jealous.
