I have been told that of all the places in the middle east, Turkey is the most cultural, historical and facinating of all.
Has anyone here been there? I am also told that it is very safe for women. I usually travel alone, am no coward but don't really want a problem either. I'm highly tempted to try it. What are the tours there like? Any advice?

Re: Turkey
Hey there Barbara,
I had an absolutely fantastic time in Turkey - and can't wait to get back there (which will probably suprise the people who were on my tour with me as I was a little homesick at first!)
It was my first time travelling, I was travelling alone and went with Imaginative Traveller on their Land & Sea tour.
Regarding Turkey being safe, and as a destination for women: to be honest I felt even safer than at home. The Turkish people are so friendly and so very proud of their country, but also conscious that we as tourists provide much of their income - as such you're treated like gold. I often remarked that I wasn't looking forward to coming back home to bad service! With ImTrav - I really enjoyed the very local style of the tour, we did a lot of things that weren't typically touristy and gave you a real sense of Turkish life and culture. At the same time we didn't miss out on the 'must see' things of Turkey - Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Kapadokya, Meditteranean Cruising.... seriously, don't get me started, we'll be here all year!!! Anyway - go to Turkey. You'll love it!
