Interested in others going on this tour. We are intending to get to Turkey early in time for Anzac day. Anyone else going to be there?
Any recommendations - have heard it is a hectic time.
We want to see a little of the Greek Islands afetr the tour. Are the ferries available this time of year (12 May)? What Islands are recommended.

Re: Turkey Land & Sea 28/4/01
Hi Toni,
The Greek ferries generally starts around middle of May. There will be ferries running before but there won't be many departures and good connections.
If you will be doing TLS 28/04 then it will be good time to cruise around the Greek islands.
By the way the Anzac Day is really hectic as you mentioned. It will be hard to get accommodation. There will be also an Imaginative Traveller trip starting at 22/04 covering Anzac day and the area which you don't see (North of Ephesus)in TLS tour.
Have a good holiday in Turkey.

Re: Turkey Land & Sea 28/4/01
We are considering travel to Turkey in late-April or mid-May. Is Anzac day the 25th of April? What exactly is it celebrating? Can we expect it to be an extraordinarily busy time for, say, an entire week surrounding the date? Is the celebration mainly in one locality?
As well, you mentioned the Grecian Ferries starting regular runs around mid-May. Is it possible to obtain a schedule? We are interested in knowing about a direct ferry from Athens to the Turkish coast.. dates, times, costs, any & all information would be greatly appreciated!

Have a look at sight www.icturkey.com for details on ANZAC day (Which is the 25th April). There is only a few ANZAC's left (Those that fought on the day) and they are held in high esteem by the Aussies & Kiwi's. It is a moving time for us and the day is in rememberence of those that have fought for our countries.

Thanks Toni! I just received a catalogue from IT which gives a bit of detail as well.
Re: Turkey Land & Sea 28/4/01
My wife and I took Turkey Land and Sea for our honeymoon last summer and we loved it. The gulet portion is fantastic, and local guides hired by IT are really knowledgeable.
If you're lucky, your driver will be Mustafa who was renamed by our group as 'Sultan Raki'
He's a really funny, great character.
There are not too many bad parts on the trip. If you are unlucky, the train from Istanbul to Ankara will be an older model which can be a bit arduous. Also, Konya is not that great of a city but it is a necessary stop.
Oh, the hotel in Avanos is unbelievable and there is a fantastic little bar about 5 minutes away from the hotel. It's a little hole in the wall, but the owner is really great and loves to party.
Basically, enjoy your trip.
