Want to know where to head for in the coming months? Here is our pick of the best destinations to escape to between now and August – whether it is for climate, festivals or wildlife!
Head to…
The Middle East – before the crowds and heat of the summer arrive so you can enjoy the famous sites in peace and comfort.
Morocco - the Festival of World Sacred Music takes place in Fes on 4-12 June. The Atlas Mountains lose their freezing temperatures and those in the Sahara Desert have not yet reached boiling point!
Turkey – enjoy the lush countryside after the winter rains. Some of the country’s most famous sites have spectacular backgrounds of greenery in the spring – Pamukkale, Ephesus, Hierapolis to name but a few.
Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls hits flood season – spectacular! Whilst rafting might be a little hairy the falls themselves will take your breath away – as well as the numerous adrenalin activities on offer here.
South Africa – not only is it the season for footballers at the World Cup but it is also the dry season in Kruger National Park so a superb time to spot the wildlife around the watering holes. Plus whale-watching season starts in June along the Cape Peninsula.
Thailand – from late spring onwards the Gulf of Thailand offers drier conditions than the Andaman side of the southern peninsula. Perfect for relaxing on the tropical islands of Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan.
Mongolia – the world-famous Nadaam Festival takes place between 11-13th July. From May through the summer is the best time to experience this remote, wild country.
Peru –All is back to normal with the Inca trail itself and the railway up to Agua Calientes and thus Machu Picchu is back up and running. The rainy season has come to an end and temperatures are on the rise. Enjoy!
Costa Rica – June is the start of turtle season. See the famous Green and Leatherbacks on their annual egg-laying expeditions at stunning Tortuguero National Park.
