With only two months to go before the world’s greatest bike race, the Tour de France, departs from Yorkshire, and still riding high on Olympic and previous TDF success, the sport of cycling is definitely having a moment.
The small group adventure specialist, who has been operating for over 23 years, have 9 cycling trips in North and Latin America, South Africa, Europe, Africa, South East Asia and India. Most of the trips take circular routes. The trips are between 8 and 14 days in length and cost between £999 and £2,199 per person.
“Making your hobby a holiday is definitely an emerging trend in the small group adventures market,” says Lorna Archibald, Sales and Marketing Manager for Imaginative Traveller.
“Although many of our trips have had a cycling or other active component like trekking or rafting, this is the first time we’ve offered exclusive cycling adventures,” she says. “However, there are still plenty of opportunities to get out of the saddle to visit vineyards, trek up mountains or explore archaeological sites during these adventures”.

Cycling the Vineyards of California , a 13 day adventure between San Francisco and LA via Napa Valley. The ultimate trip for active foodies – this amazing adventure takes you through the vineyards of California, whilst burning off all the calories consumed. Highlights include: Napa Valley, join the Silverado Trail, a scenic route passing over 40 wineries, Coastal Highway, following the Russian River via the magnificent Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve, crossing the Golden Gate bridge by bike, 17 Mile Drive / Big Sur, Santa Maria – Santa Barbara; the ‘American Riviera’, Santa Monica – Los Angeles. Cycling the Cape and Winelands (South Africa), a 12 day cycling odyssey on a unique circular route taking in many of the fantastic sights that the Cape Peninsula has to offer. In addition to Table Mountain and the chance to sample the produce of the world famous wine estates of Stellenbosch, the wild coastline and rugged interior provide some classic riding on peaceful roads with very little traffic. The stunning scenery, a rich cultural history, unique flora, and some unusual wildlife encounters in the form of penguins, plains game, whales (in season) and baboons, make this a fantastic destination to discover by bicycle. Cycling in Sardinia A fully supported 8 day adventure between San Salvatore and Pula, on Sardinia’s south western coast. Enjoy varied scenery of lush wetlands, white beaches, towering cliffs and ancient ruins, island hop by ferry, visiting picturesque fishing villages, over-nighting in cosy farmhouses. Cycling in Mexico A circular 10 day trip from Cancun to Cancun via Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum. Mexico is home to idyllic beaches, lively music, astonishing archaeology, exciting food and friendly people, making it the perfect destination for a fantastic cycling holiday. Following Yucatan’s backroads, we cycle through colourful villages, explore magnificent Mayan pyramids and temples, and swim in the transparent waters of enormous canyons. We end the trip on the idyllic Riviera May, where there is the opportunity to snorkel on the world’s longest coral reef, or simply relax on a palm-filled Caribbean beach: the perfect way to unwind after a week cycling! Cuban Cycle Ride £999 for an 8 day circular trip ex Havana, and one of the most relaxed, easy-going cycle rides Imaginative Traveller offers. Following country roads we cycle around the lush Bay of Pigs, site of the failed US 1961 invasion attempt, and swim in the inviting waters of the Caribbean Sea.
