Results from a recent travel insurance survey which found 62 per cent of holidaymakers willing to go abroad without cover have been described as shocking by an industry manager.
Holidaymakers under 30 were the worst offenders with over half admitting they would travel without any insurance, according to a survey conducted by Moneysupermarket.com.
Eight per cent of all people polled said they never cover themselves when going on holiday.
Travel insurance manager at the company Maxine Baker said: "I am shocked at the amount of Brits willing to travel uninsured. Our research reveals a worrying trend."
Ms Baker warned that going without travel insurance may turn out to be a "false economy" and said that it was not a good way to make cut backs on spending.
The website recommends double-checking that your destination and any specific activities you do are covered by your policy.
