Taking a family holiday in the summer can have benefits for both adults and children, one industry spokesperson has said.
Lucy Ace, managing director at Take the Family, said: "The holidays that you have with your children are incredibly precious as they often become lifetime memories".
She went on to say that when taking a break from the toil of daily life back home, "who better to spend time with than the people closest to you."
Ms Ace added that even when travelling with older children - which is increasingly becoming the case during the recession - by choosing a family adventure holiday where everyone can enjoy their own space, travellers could be "surprised" at how much fun it can be.
However, research carried out by Sunshine.co.uk found that only 34 per cent of parents in the UK would take children aged over 18 away with them on a holiday tour this year.
