Adventure trips could be set for a surge in popularity in 2010, according to predictions on the years ahead by Gap Adventures.
The company recently revealed its top ten tips for travel over the next 20 years and stated that it expects people to increasingly embark on once-in-a-lifetime journeys to spectacular places they have always wanted to see.
It said: "This can be anything from visiting that lifetime dream destination or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to learning to cook in South America or even rehabilitating wild animals."
Furthermore, the firm suggested a big trend for the next two decades could be more people taking time off work to explore the world, or travellers heading to edgy, extreme destinations such as Antarctica - where visitors are encouraged to go to the South Shetland Islands or South Georgia by Lonely Planet.
In addition, it explained that holidaymakers will prioritise getting to know the community of their chosen location by interacting with local people and learning their customs and traditions.
