Adventure travel on offer in Oman

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Adventure-bound imaginative explorers looking for the best destination in which to get the adrenaline pumping might want to consider Oman after its tourist board revealed key dates in the country's calendar for 2010.

The body stated that February 14th sees the Tour of Oman Bicycle Race take place, which is based on the Tour de France and was organised by former racer Eddie Mercyx.

In addition those who love to fish in picturesque surroundings could be interested in the Sinbad Classic IGFA World Fishing Championship qualifying event, taking place in Muscat's Bandah al Rowdha at the end of May.

Furthermore, sporty travellers are encouraged to stop in at the Asian Beach Games in December, where "over 10,000 athletes, officials, media and volunteers from 45 countries are expected to participate in the world-class event", which will host beach volleyball, handball, swimming, triathlon and jetski competitions.

It was recently revealed that Oman was given the silver award in the Destination of the Year category by Wanderlust at the Destinations Holiday & Travel Show.
