Adventure travel could be set for surge

Thursday, March 11, 2010

The number of people embarking on an action holiday could be set to increase this year following research by the British Travel Awards (BTA).

According to a study by the organisation, Britons appear to be intent on taking a holiday this year following a recession that caused them to rein in their spending.

It found that 27 per cent of respondents said that they would cut down on how much they splash out in other areas of their lives to ensure they can afford a main vacation in 2010, while others explained that they would simply reduce the budget for the trip.

In addition, the survey showed that 12 per cent would consider taking advantage of an all-inclusive package.

Commenting on the figures, chief executive of the BTA - a UK-based awards programme created to reward the best companies in travel - Lorraine Barnes Burton said: "It would appear that for 2010 the main annual holiday will not be sacrificed."
