Adventurous explorers taking part in a tour of China may want to draw inspiration from a British daredevil who has taken part in an ambitious stunt in the region.
Lewis Gordon Pugh has swum across a glacial lake on Mount Everest, which lies on the border between China, Nepal and Tibet.
The swimmer took on the challenge in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of global warming.
He completed the escapade, which took place at 5,300 metres, in 22 minutes and 55 seconds, overcoming the lake's freezing temperatures and a bout of altitude sickness along the way.
Mr Pugh said: "I was deeply concerned that I wouldn't make one-kilometre and I'm delighted that I've finally achieved it."
He now plans to show footage of the event to new British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Sightseers in China could capture their experiences in the country by taking part in a two-week photography tour that visits some of the nation's most famous landmarks.
