Imaginative explorers who love to combine travel with adventure may be interested in visiting Pemba Island.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, diving expert Tim Ecott explained that the destination, which sits just off the coast of Tanzania and north of Zanzibar, is perfect for underwater escapades.
He stated that his first dive was to explore a shipwreck and that the crystal clear waters gave him the opportunity to witness the entire structure with ease, as well as exotic species of fish and brightly-coloured coral.
Mr Ecott added that he also visited Misali Island, close to Fundu Lagoon, which has been conserved by the Tanzanian government in an attempt to protect its surrounding coral reefs.
"This is the kind of magic I prefer to see. There are half a dozen individual dive sites here, mostly drift dives along the rich coral walls," he said.
Lonely Planet suggests those heading to the region to travel across to Tanzania and see the Kolo-Kondoa Rock Art Sites and the Ngorongoro Crater.
