Brits 'looking for adventure from their holidays'

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

British holidaymakers want more from their travel plans than just rest and relaxation, according to new research.

A survey carried out by DirectGov revealed 74 per cent of people in the UK - and 82 per cent of those aged between 18 and 24 - want to fulfil a lifetime ambition while on holiday.

When asked about what experiences travellers wanted to get out of their travel, some 24 per cent said they wanted to get up close to native wildlife and 15 per cent confessed to wanting to try their hand at painting or photography.

Londoners had the greatest desire to take up a new skill, with 73 per cent of people surveyed wishing to do this.

Popular holiday experiences included cooking master classes and discovering unexplored islands on a private yacht.

Imaginative travellers headed to Africa may wish to head out on a safari to come face-to-face with elephants and game.

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana is the second largest reserve in the world and according to Botswana tourism is larger than Swaziland and Lesotho put together.
