Marrakech 'shoppers' haven'

Friday, March 12, 2010

Imaginative explorers hoping for some retail therapy while they are on holiday might be interested in a trip to Marrakech.

The Moroccan city is described by Lonely Planet as being "packed with mind-boggling distractions" and there could be another one on its way for keen shoppers.

According to Riad El Fenn - a large townhouse-cum-hotel - it is to open a brand new store full of fantastic Moroccan objects and items that could appeal to travellers who want to take home an authentic piece of Africa.

In addition, it offers shopping guides that take visitors to the best shops in Medina.

Guests "can easily fill a small empty suitcase with products from tea glasses to handmade lamps and toiletries to babouche", it states.

Lonely Planet advises people heading to the area to visit Djemaa el-Fna, which is the city's exhilarating main square and is full of vendors of all kinds of interesting goods.

Furthermore, it suggests going to Bahia Palace and Koutoubia Minaret.
