Imaginative travellers will be heading to destinations such as South Africa, Japan, Argentina and China in 2010, according to a top ten list of most popular must-see destinations for next year.
A visit to Hong Kong was named as the third-most popular choice for holidaymakers, according to a poll by STA Travel, followed by Mexico City.
"Travellers are looking to make the most of their precious time off work by visiting some of the world's most aspirational cities that they consider to be must-see destinations," said product director at the company Ian Swain.
Cape Town, Tokyo, Beijing and Buenos Aires also featured in the list.
According to the city's tourism website, Cape Town is regarded as one of the most beautiful destinations on the planet.
Some of its most popular tourist attractions include the V&A Waterfront, Robben Island and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
It is also a popular destination for whale watching, wine tasting and spotting wildlife.
