Egypt holidays could be perfect for imaginative travellers, with Alexandria in particular being suggested as an ideal destination for explorers looking for hidden treasures off the beaten track.
Writing in the Telegraph, Teresa Levonian Cole encouraged holidaymakers to make the most of the city's backstreets and immerse themselves in the vibrant, cosmopolitan culture there.
Taking the time to walk down the 16-mile Corniche waterfront and stop at the nearby fish markets, bustling cafes and jewellery shops is also advised.
Ms Cole added that antique lovers could pick up a bargain in the city if they shop around.
"One can discover a beautiful bronze statue, a Sevres porcelain vase or a Venetian chandelier in the narrow streets where furniture-makers reproduce the popular French styles of yesteryear," she stated.
According to thetravelmagazine.net, British travellers are increasingly heading to eastern destinations such as Egypt, Turkey and Morocco, especially due to the appeal of favourable exchange rates.
