Adventure-bound travellers encouraged to visit 'spectacular' China

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Imaginative travellers planning on heading to China in the near future have been given a number of tips on the best places to see on their stay.

According to John Warner, managing director of Gap Adventures, holidaymakers should explore the country and go off the beaten track in search of different regions' unique cuisine, culture and history.

Suggesting possible places to stop at, he explained that people should head to Xi'an for the 6,000 life-size terracotta warriors built by emperor Qin Shi Huang 221 BC.

The sight of the statues lined up in formation "really is quite phenomenal", Mr Warner said.

He added that "travellers should also try and visit the giant stone Buddha at Leshan and definitely make a trip to the Three Gorges", as well as heading to the "spectacular" Hong Kong.

It was recently revealed by China's National Tourism Administration that 125 million tourists came to the country during the Spring Festival, which took place between February 13th and 19th.
